The University of Ilorin will soon start production of goat milk.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdul Ganiyu Ambali disclosed this during a new year interaction with newsmen in Ilorin, Kwara state yesterday.
He said milk production is one of the numerous ways the institution was impacting on its host community.
The VC said that the university has commenced moves to search for varieties of goats that can produce milk in large quantities from some neighbouring African countries.
He further disclosed that said the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) has approved the university’s request to admit more students for its 2015/2016 academic session from 7,000 to about 9,000.
Ambail said the institution has concluded arrangement with a private firm known as Orange group from Lagos to construct 5,000 bed space hostels to ease challenges of hostel accommodation facing the students.
He said the university will also construct additional two blocks of hostel to compliments its build, operate and transfer (BOT)arrangements which it had entered with private firms.
