Students under the aegis of the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOS) yesterday paralyzed social and commercial activities in Akure, the state capital.
The protesters who claimed to be aggrieved because of non-payment of bursary allowance by the government in the last three years blocked the popular Oba-Adesida/Oyemekun road thereby causing traffic gridlock in the state capital.
They also barricaded the Cathedral junction making it difficult for both commercial and private car owners to get to their destinations.
Many resulted to trekking while others took commercial motorcycles to beat the protesters.
The protesters, who were led by their leader, Mr Charles Iwakun, blocked the popular Oba Adesida Road for several hours, causing traffic gridlock in the ancient city.
Armed with different placards with various inscriptions such as; ‘Governor, pay our money,’ ‘Bursary is our right, not a privilege’, it is time to pay our bursary’, among others, turned the road into football pitch during their protest.
