The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) on Saturday arrested five suspected vandals with two tankers containing 33, 000 each of crude oil in Benin.
The state commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Chuka Akubuiroh who confirmed this to LEADERSHIP Sunday said the suspects were arrested around bypass area of Benin/Warri highway following a tip-off.
He said the suspects who have been remanded in their custody, would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded on the matter adding that investigation would determine how and where the suspects got the products.
The commandant said that the two tankers with registration number ABH 264 XA and ABS 186 XA respectively have been impounded by the NSCDC.
According to him, “These tankers contain what we suspected to be crude oil and they may have tampered with pipeline somewhere.When we got wind of this movement sometime last week, we mounted 36 hours surveillance and it yielded result, only this morning, our men were able to trap them.”
