The Niger State governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has decried the deplorable conditions of the schools in the state saying that even animals cannot survive where students are kept.
The governor who paid visit to Maryam Babangida Girls Science School, Minna, yesterday, expressed displeasure at the state of the facilities in the school, vowing that he will endeavour to reverse the situation.
“We’ve visited schools where animals would not like to live in the hostel and dogs wouldn’t eat the food,” he declared
According to him “It’s unfair to blame students for failing examinations when they study in filthy environment and receive sub-standard instruction. It’s also not right to blame teachers for poor performance without providing them tools to aid teaching.”
Consequently the governor said his administration would provide better conditions for both students and teachers as well as find solutions to the problems facing the schools.
Governor Abubakar Bello maintained that his unscheduled visits to schools will continue in order to ascertain the conditions of the schools for necessary actions.
He stated that he would not give room for excuses, adding that “you either do your work or you leave us.”
