The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to review the appointment of the director general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Daura Lawal, as it claimed that Lawal is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Rising from its weekly National Working Committee (NWC) the PDP further alleged that Lawal headed the intelligence committee of the APC Presidential Campaign during the last general elections.
The acting national chairman of the PDP, Mr. Uche Secondus, disclosed this in Abuja yesterday while addressing journalists after the party’s meeting.
He also alleged the harassment of PDP members, detention and coercion of electoral officers in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states to write reports over the ongoing election tribunal matters in those states.
According to Secondus, if the harassment of its members and electoral officers is not checked, the development may result in breakdown of law and order.
Expressing lack of confidence in the ability of the DSS boss to be fair, Secondus said, “We want to draw attention of Nigerians that DG DSS is member of the APC. He was the chairman of the intelligence committee of the APC during the last general elections. He will not be fair and the president should review his appointment. He is partial and will not be fair to all.”
On the issue of harassment of PDP members and electoral officers in Akwa Ibom and Rivers states, Secondus said, “We want to bring the attention of the Nigerian people, the international community and government of APC that we have observed that the government of APC especially the DSS over the few months have continued to harass members of our party in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.”
