The new Lagos State police public relations officer, SP Ifedolapo Badmos has said that her saddest moment as a police officer was when a 3-year-old girl who was tortured by her aunt was brought to her office.
Badmos said she would never forget the say because it was when she was the divisional police officer of Isokoko police station before she was deployed to her present office.
She recalled that a landlord and some tenants came with the small girl who was tortured by her aunt, simply because the kid defecated on the bed.
She said that the aunt begun by flogging the girl after which she slapped her face to the wall and the child collapsed and lost consciousness. She said poeple had to give the child first aid to revive her.
She said when the child was brought to her station, she had lost colour and stamina and could barely stand on her feet.
Badmos said the woman was barren but confessed that “the child belongs to her brother who advised that the child should live with her because of the superstitious belief that, if you don’t have a child you should live with one so that God will bless you with your own baby.”
Badmos said she subsequently ordered that the girl be rushed to the general hospital were doctors treated her.
The police spokesperson said the case was charged to court and the woman was remanded in prison custody. She said at least that would serve as a deterrent to the others who would attempt to torture any minor, living with them.
