The Nigerian Army on Thursday, December, 7, 2015, received delivery of 24 Mine-Resistant Armor-Protected vehicles worth $11m from the United States government.
Punch Newspapers reports that the US embassy Information Office said the donation is part of the United States Excess Defense Articles Programme.
The office also added that 8 more Mine-Resistant Armor-Protected vehicles, $7.4 million will also be delivered soon.
Speaking to newsmen, the U.S. Defense Attaché to Nigeria, Col. Patrick Doyle, said “These vehicles provide increased protection from improvised explosive devices, roadside bombs, and small arms fire, while offering more maneuverability and better fuel economy than other types of armoured personnel carriers.”
The purpose of the United States Excess Defense Articles Programme, is to Transfer excess defense equipment to foreign governments or international organisations, for modernisation of partner forces.
