The Borno State House of Assembly has debunked the report that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sealed off the legislative arm of the state government over an alleged N600 billion scam, as reported by an online media, describing it as fictitious.
In a statement signed by the chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon. Mustapha Alibe, and made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday in Abuja, the House described the story as baseless and only reflect the deepest depth of yellow journalism ever witnessed in Nigeria.
According to the statement, the online platform, claimed that members of the House took to their heels upon the arrival of the men of the EFCC and that the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Ali Dalori, was placed under house arrest.
It also noted that the report claimed that Governor Kashim Shettima had to rush back to Maiduguri from his Abuja `hideout’, while his commissioners went into hiding.
“The House hereby states categorically that there is no modicum of truth in the entire story as it was a figment of imagination of its author.
The alert NTrail sent to its readers was nothing but tissues of lies and could only have happened in the jaundiced imagination of the online platform,” he said.
Alibe said it was unfortunate that while the three arms of the Borno State government are working assiduously to bring succour to the troubled state, some disgruntled elements could be engaging in myopic and jaundiced yellow journalism to discredit the achievements recorded so far.
