Following the arrest by the convoy of the Lagos State governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, last week of two Airforce cadets, Peters Solomon and Abdullahi Fahad, the Nigerian Air Force has said it would conduct an inquiry into the incident once the two men are handed over to the force by the police.
In a statement by the Air Officer Commanding of the Logistics Command headquarters, Air Vice Marshal M.A. Muhammed, vowed to apply appropriate sanctions on the men after due investigations.
“The leadership of the Nigerian Air Force will like to make it absolutely clear that the service does not condone this kind of behaviour. We clearly understand our responsibilities to the public, but as soon as the airmen are handed over to the force by the police, we shall conduct appropriate judicial process,” the statement noted.
It would be recalled that the two cadets were apprehended on Wednesday in Mile 12 area of the state while dehumanising an artisan, Dahiru Lawal, for allegedly breaking the windscreen of a Chrysler Stratus car with Registration No. KRD 267 DV.
The cadets, who claimed to be Airforce personnel attached to the Airforce Base in Ikeja, had dumped Lawal into the boot of their car after dragging him on the ground for the said offence.
Ambode, who was returning from an inspection visit to Agbowa in Ikorodu, saw the situation and swiftly intervened to save Lawal, who was gasping for breath.
