The indefatigable senator representing Lagos West and wife of leader of the APC, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has explained the reason she initiated and continues to support the Musical Youth Fiesta Initiative (MYFI). Speaking at the 2015 edition that held on Wednesday, 16th December at the Expo centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites Victoria Island, she said the event was an opportunity to showcase the creative musical talents of the youth and embolden them to perform publicly.
“This programme is of youth by youth and for the youth. Being an educationist, you don’t know how far this can affect their lives and generations to come.“The strength of any nation is determined by the quality of its youth. And you can see in this nation presently, there is a problem of youth unemployment. And when we begin to encourage them let them have a voice and let them have confidence, they will keep their dreams alive” she said. There were choirs, pupils and groups from each of the 57 local government and local council development areas across the state. Also, there were different colours of hats displayed by one group and the other. Present at the event were the executive secretaries of the local councils and government officials, which include; Deputy Governor Mrs. Idiat Adebule represented by Mrs Yetunde Odejayi, Pastor Josiah Bolarinwa, patron of MYFI, Mrs Kemi Soname, Mrs Bukola Faleke and Jide Sanwo-Olu, the chairman, organising committee of MYFI, were also present at the event.
Delivering a goodwill message, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s wife, Bolanle, commended the convener for their consistency of the initiative which she said was fast becoming a brand. She said; “What can we give God in return for his mercies? Nothing but praises and that is the reason we are here to give praise to the almighty God. Let us open our mouths and praise Him.”
Also, the youths didn’t disappoint as each performance was outstanding. The choirs also played various beats; blue grass, reggae, and traditional music.
