Col. Sani Usman, Acting Director, Army Public Relations said that some suspected members of a religious group attempted an attack on the convoy of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai in Zaria on Saturday.
In a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, he said that the group struck in the afternoon when the COAS went to pay homage to the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris.
He said that the COAS also went to Zaria to attend the passing out parade of 73 Regular Recruits intake of Nigerian Army Depot, Zaria.
He said in the statement that the members of the group, wielding dangerous weapons, obstructed the main road with stones and tyres.
He said further that the members threw stones and dangerous objects at the convoy of the COAS, noting that COAS was not hurt.
Usman said: “We wish to implore all Nigerians to continue to be law abiding and remain conscious of other people’s right to life and freedom of movement.’’.(NAN)
