The candidate of ruling APC, Mustapha Yusuf, has been declared winner of the bye-election into Jibiya Constituency Seat in Katsina state House of Assembly.
Yusuf scored 13, 610 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mi’ita Abba of the opposition PDP who scored 5,225 votes at the poll that was characterised by low voter turn-out.
Declaring the result, INEC Returning Officer, Dr Aminudeen Abdu said the poll was keenly contested adding that “Mustapha Yusuf of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest votes, is hereby declared elected”.
The election was characterised by poor turn out of voters even though INEC ensured early distribution of election materials.
It would be recalled that the seat became vaccant following the death of its occupant, Faisal who was among those feared dead at the stampede that happened in Saudi Arabia during this year.
