Mavin big boss, Don Jazzy, is very busy this period as he is preparing for the first ever Mavin Concert which is billed to hold in Lagos this December. According to the beat maker, the event which is sponsored by Access Bank, promises to be the first of its kind in Africa.
In a chat with Saturday Beats in Lagos recently when he unveiled his plans for the concert, the ace producer said it is possible for him to still do some songs with his estranged business partner and friend, D’banj.
“It is possible for D’banj and me to collaborate together. When we both settle down, we would do it. He is mostly abroad and I am busy in Nigeria building the career of Di’ja, Reekado Banks and Korede Bello. By the time we are in the same vicinity, maybe in Lekki (Lagos), then we can work together. I can’t be the one to initiate the move because he did not tell me he needs a song. We are both doing fine. We would probably work together. As long as there is life, anything can happen,” he said.
Talking about the ladies who have been fantasising about being with the prolific beat maker, he told Saturday Beats that he has not been in any amorous relationship for over a year.
He said, “I don’t have a girlfriend but I have female friends. The last time I was in a relationship was about a year ago. Right now, we are on a break. I have been dating her for about six years and on a number of occasions, we have been on and off in the relationship. Her name is Onome. I may get married and nobody would know. I am not the type of person that would make noise when I want to get married. I am not really a public person.”
Fully aware that some musicians would love to work with him, Don Jazzy told Saturday Beats how anyone who wants to work with him could get a hold of him. He also disclosed that he never bills anyone who wants to feature him in their songs.
“To work with me, you need to have the musical talent. Once you are sure you have the talent then you need to find me and the best place to get me is on the internet. Once you reach out to me on the internet, we would chat and I would ask you to send your song to me. I would not listen to your song if I feel that you are a trouble maker because there are some people that could send you their song and the next thing you would hear is that I used their song. It depends on how you communicate with me. If I listen to the song and I feel that you are good, the last determining factor would be if I have the time to work with you.
“I have never charged for collaborating with anyone. I feel honoured to be on the song so I do not charge for collaborations and I think I have actually done collaborations with almost everybody that asked me for one,” Don Jazzy said.
