Gov. Al-Makura Inaugurates, Assigns Portfolios To 16 Commissioners

Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa state on Friday inaugurated 16 Commissioners that were screened recently confirmed by the State House of Assembly.

Inaugurating the commissioners in Lafia, the governor explained that they are joining his team at a time when the state and the entire country is facing serious economic problem due to dwindling resources.

He noted that since the inception of his second tenure, the state has been facing dwindling resources accruing to it from the federation account due to drop in the price of crude oil.

The Governor also inaugurated one Permanent Secretary into the state’s executive council.

As according to him “you must all imbibe the principles of financial discipline, probity, due process, accountability and transparency in all you actions”.Al-makura said.

He also charged them to initiate new ways to help the state in diversifying the internal revenue generation sources of government to reduce over reliance on the monthly allocations form the Federal Government.

He equally directed all commissioners in the areas that have to do with revenue generation to use their initiatives in boosting the revenue base of the state.

Those inaugurated and assigned portfolios were Dominic Bako (Finance), Eunice Kigbu (Women Affairs and Social Development), Lawee Yusuf (Agriculture).

Others were Tim Yiga (Information and Culture and Tourism), Ramatu Abubakar (Education), Daneil Iya (Health), Aliyu Tijani (Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), Haruna Illiya (Commerce and Industry) Ibrahim Othman (Budget and Planning).

The remaining are: Mustapha Yaya-Idris (Community and Rural Development), Isahq Galadima (Youths and Sports), Godwin Maikeri (Works and Housing), Yusuf Usman (Justice), Sunny Agasi (Lands) and Gabriel Aka’aka (Environment).

Meanwhile, the governor said that the Ishaku Usman the new Permanent Secretary that was inaugurated would be assigned ministry in ‘due course’.

Responding on behalf of the newly appointed commissioners, Yusuf Usman, Commissioner for Justice commended the Governor for founding them fit to be appointed and promised to not to fail him and the people of the state.
