Professor Samuel Oye Bandele Is Now The New EKSU Vice-Chancellor

The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose has approved the appointment of a Professor of Educational Evaluation, Professor Samuel Oye Bandele as the next Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, EKSU.

This was sequel to the decision of the 116th meeting of the institution’s Governing Council after conducting interviews for thirteen (13) Professors who applied for the position. Professor Samuel Oye Bandele will succeed Professor Patrick Oladipo Aina whose tenure ends on 2nd December, 2015. Professor Bandele thus becomes the 7th Vice-Chancellor of the 33 year old institution.Aged 61, Professor Bandele hails from Ijesamodu – Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government of Ekiti State.

He bagged a First Class in Mathematics Education from University of Benin in 1983, a Master’s degree and Ph.D in Education Measurement and Evaluation, from the University of Ibadan in 1985 and 1989 respectively among other qualifications.

Prof. Bandele, an erudite scholar in Mathematics Education, Computer Science Education and Tests, Measurement and Educational Evaluation, with interest in Tests, Measurement and Evaluation, Research and Statistics, served three years over a highly successful Institute of Education as Director. He later became the Dean, Faculty of Education and the Director, Directorate of Part-Time Programmes of the University of Ado-Ekiti (now EKSU). He was the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of an erstwhile The University of Education, Ikere-Ekiti (TUNEDIK) and later University of Science and Technology Ifaki (USTI),before the merger of the two Universities with the former University of Ado-Ekiti to become Ekiti State University (EKSU).

Professor Bandele is a prolific researcher in the use of statistics, Psychometric Techniques and Computer application for evaluation and Quality Assurance in Education. He is Editor-In-Chief of several academic Journals in Nigeria and the founder of the National Association of Educational Researcher and Evaluation (NAERE), apart from being member and executive member of several academic associations in and outside Nigeria.

The new Vice-Chancellor belongs to several professional bodies including Common Wealth of Learning (COL), Vancouver, Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (THLE), Singapore, Curriculum Organization of Nigeria (CON), Nigeria Association of Professional Educators (NAPE), Nigeria Education Research Council (NERA), Educational Studies Association of Nigeria (ESAN), Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN); Ondo State Mathematical Association; National Association of Educational Researchers and Evaluation (NAERE) and Computer Association of Nigeria (COAN).

He is an External Examiner of the Post Graduate students of the Universities of Ibadan, Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The new Vice-Chancellor has attended several international conferences where he presented papers that relating to educational Assessment, Evaluation and Quality Assurance in teaching and learning.

He was the Contact Person for the UNESCO funded educational project for the sub-Saharan Africa for developing Nigerian Universities. He was one of the five professors invited in 2005 from all over the world to review the programmes of the Faculty of Education of the University of Botswana. Professor Bandele was named the Best Paper presenter at the 12th International Conference of Open Learning held in Cambridge, United Kingdom in 2007.

The award winning paper was titled “Mobile Learning Paradigm in Africa and the Problem of Digital Divide”. Prof. Bandele successfully completed an Executive Management training programme in Pretoria South Africa in 2009 with training tour of Swaziland and Mozambique.

The new Vice-Chancellor was also one of the three international experts in Digital Learning to moderate the proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Open Learning with emphasis on Digital Learning in Cambridge, in 2009, presented and published widely at both local and international journals. Professor Bandele is happily married to Comfort Titilayo Bandele and the marriage is blessed with four children – three girls and one boy.
