With Felabration 2015 in full swing, another important woman in Fela’s history has arrived for the yearly celebration.
Leni Sinclair, the woman who took Fela’s most iconic picture has landed in the country for Felabration.

Leni Sinclair (original name Magdalene Arndt) took the black and white picture of Fela doing the power salute at the Orchestra Hall in Detroit, Michigan, in 1986. The picture is arguably Fela’s most famous picture.
Leni Sinclair has taken ‘iconic’ pictures of artistes such as Jimi Hendrix, the MC5, and Iggy Pop to John Coltrane, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Sun Ra, John Lennon, and others.
Sandra Izsadore, the renowned black rights activist who greatly influenced Fela, is currently in Nigeria.

Sandra Izsadore met Fela in 1969 in the city of Los Angeles. Fela will go on to cite her as a major influence in his pro-African beliefs and views. The two had an affair for a while.
