The Africa’s richest businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has granted approval for employment of fifteen professors at the Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Shehu A. Musa, made the disclosure at a media chat in preparation for 15th anniversary ceremony of the institution at the university’s conference hall yesterday.
“Let me on this note, inform you of some of the pledges made by Dangote for this university, because we want to properly put them on record. Firstly, he has granted us the approval to recruit 15 professors.
This is the first of this gesture in the country.”, he said.
According to the VC, Dangote, who is the Chancellor of the university, has also pledged to pay salaries and allowances of the professors for the period of four years, adding that the business mogul has also pledged the provision of fifteen housing units within the university where the professors would be residing.
He added that the Chancellor has also donated the sum of N100 million to cater for some developmental projects at the institution, adding that he also pledged provision of industrial borehole as well as ultra modern power supply for the about15,000 population of the university.
While highlighting his achievements within the period of 18 months of his tenure as VC, Prof. Musa stated that there are 36 ongoing projects and 12 completed projects, saying. “This has been achieved for my vision and mission to take this institution to the promise land.”
He also commended the previous Vice Chancellors for laying a good foundation for the university, stressing that their performances during their respective tenures were the reason why the institution is ranked among the best in the country.
He however commended the Kano State government for its commitment towards development of the university, stressing that there are a lot of completed and ongoing projects being executed by the state government in the science and technology based university.
