The leader of an armed robbery gang, Ahmed Ola, has disclosed that he formed his car-snatching ring while serving time in jail for a different crime.
Ola admitted to his crimes on Monday while being paraded alongside his colleagues at the state police headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun state.
“I met two members of the gang inside cell when I was arrested for a crime and from there we formed this group. We have snatched so many vehicles and we have people that are buying it from us. We have fabricated master keys for different brand of cars,” he told journalists.
He said he was driven to crime by poverty. Other members of his gang are Ozazuwa Odion (buyer), Abiodun Taiwo and Ifeanyi Oke.
Speaking while parading the suspects, the police public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the suspects were arrested after repeated complaints from members of the public.
He said 10 vehicles were recovered from the gang and that the vehicles were snatched from neighbouring states.
