Ex-Senators, Reps To Receive N2.4Bn Severance Pay

The immediate past members of the 7th National Assembly (NASS) are to receive N2,494,300,000 as severance pay, according to The Nation. These include those who were re-elected into the 8th National Assembly.

The severance pay is usually computed at the end of every session of the National Assembly.

The National Assembly has 109 senators and 360 House of Representatives members, and each Senators is to get N6.7 million, while their lower chamber counterparts get N4.9 million each.

The Senators also parted with N2 million each in order to keep their official Prado Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) which were supplied at N12 million per unit, while Reps members part with N1.9million each for their Peugeot 407 cars.

Payment of severance gratuity to federal legislators is contained in the “Remuneration Package for Political and Public and Judicial Office Holders” (Feb 2007 to date) prepared by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

Under the RMAFC guidelines, the Senate President is entitled to N7,482,727.50 as severance gratuity and House of Representatives Speaker, N7,431,330.

Senators are entitled to N6,079,200 each and representatives, N5,955,637.
