Kareem Adeyemi has been sentenced to jail by an Iyaganku chief magistrates’ court in Ibadan, Oyo state, for stealing in a mosque during an evening prayer to end the day’s Ramadan fast.
The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of felony and stealing in a place of worship.
According to The Punch, Mrs. A.F. Richards who presided over the case sentenced him to two months for felony and another three months for stealing with both to run concurrently from the day the convict was first arraigned before the court.
Corporal Oluseye Oyebanji, the prosecutor had earlier informed the court that Adeyemi stole N7,000 from Jubril Awalu in Bodija housing central mosque, Ibadan.
He was said to have entered the mosques with other worshippers but deftly picked the pocket of the unsuspecting victim.
Meanwhile, a Magistrates’ Court situated at Ijede near Ikorodu, Lagos state on Tuesday discharged a man, Kazeem Ajiga, who allegedly killed another man for stealing his aluminum roofing sheets.
