A clash between members of the Oodua People’s Congress and some alleged pipeline vandals in Arepo, Obafemi Owodi area of Ogun State on Wednesday claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and a pedestrian.
The pregnant woman identified as Mrs Damilola Fajan and another pedestrian were said to have been killed in the heat of the clash.
The incident which occurred at about 3pm at Unity Estate saw a pedestrian hit by bullet in the leg and was rushed to the hospital.
It was gathered that the clash started on Monday was said to be between some Ijaw youths and OPC members employed by the Federal Government to protect pipelines.
The clash however assumed a new dimension on Wednesday as heavy exchange of gunshots was heard leading to residents running indoors for safety.
AS a result of the clash, a pregnant woman who was in a vehicle was hit by the bullet and she died at the spot.
It was further learnt that the second victim, an unidentified man was hit by a bullet from the clash while walking by the roadside, and did not survive as well.
While confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said gunshots were heard but nobody knows exactly who fired the shots.
Adejobi further disclosed that the corpse of the pregnant woman had been deposited in a morgue.
“Bullet hit the pregnant woman in the neck and she died,” he said.
