The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, on Friday restated that the ban on road blocks by policemen would be enforced strictly.
Arase made the assertion while addressing senior police officers and men during his maiden visit to the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja on Friday.
He said the decision to enforce the ban on road blocks had been made, adding that 16 teams had been deployed to enforce it.
“Sixteen teams have been deployed to the whole geo-political zones to make sure the ban on road blocks is enforced.
“The ban on road blocks does not mean there won’t be civility in policing in terms of police motor patrols. “I don’t want to ambush any officer and anybody.
The road blocks have become a nuisance, I’m allergic to corruption and I have zero tolerance for it.
“I have also directed that every person who is unauthorised to use police officers as escort, such policemen should be withdrawn,’’ Arase said.
He also assured officers and men of improved welfare.
The acting inspector-general, who appreciated the officers and men of the Lagos State Command for their loyalty to duty, enjoined them to do more.
“I know how crime was years before now in Lagos but I know there has been sudden decline in crime as at now,’’ he said.
He also warned the policemen to desist from criminalising civil and commercial cases.
“One area I have serious problem with is the area of criminalising civil and commercial cases which the Commissioners of Police from all the states should look into,” Arase said.
The inspector-general also visited the Police College, Ikeja to inspect the facilities there.
NAN reports that very senior officers, including the AIG Zone 2, Mr Joseph Mbu, were at the command to receive the inspector-general.
