Crisis is brewing in Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the state chairman of the party, Chief Idowu Faleye was removed from office over alleged non-performance and breach of the party’s constitution.
The state executive council of the party was said to have elevated the Ekiti Central Senatorial District chairman, Mr O. Olatunde, to acting chairman capacity pending the time the vacant seat will be filled.
Olatunde who spoke with newsmen yesterday in Ado Ekiti, said Faleye resigned voluntarily from his position to correct the error made in his appointment as the state chairman, having come from the same Ido Ward 1, Ido Ekiti with the state youth leader, coupled with his alleged inefficiency in office.
While stating that the PDP National Working Committee in Abuja has been notified through the Southwest Office, Olatunde said, “We held the State Executive Committee meeting at our secretariat in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, where Chief Idowu Faleye was confronted with the fact that we made a mistake in his appointment”.
Meanwhile, Faleye, who also addressed newsmen alongside former deputy governor, Chief Paul Alabi and Senator Clement Awoyelu, said he remains the constitutionally recognised chairman of the party, adding that the allegation of inefficiency levelled against him was out of place as he convenes the party’s statutory meetings every Tuesday.
He alleged that his detractors were requesting for the payment of the six months arrears of their honourarium totaling N11million, “which I told them I cannot do without getting the approval of the party leader.”
