The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba state has alleged that the resident electoral commissioner (REC), Alhaji Hamad Makama, is refusing to release results from certain polling units causing tension and anxiety.
The results, which were supposedly due to be returned at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s office in Jalingo yesterday, are yet to arrive, a source said.
The source, who is close to the APC governorship candidate, Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan, said that the REC was paid one billion naira to rig the elections in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“They are holding on to the results from Southern Taraba with intensions to influence the results in favour of the PDP,” the source said in a telephone conversation.
The source said that the party had been unable to reach its agents. “We cannot reach our agents because mobile phones are not working in many of the villages in Southern Taraba. We have been unable to contact party agents to know what is happening there.
“We are waiting at the INEC office but officials are yet to confirm if they have received the results. They are working to ensure that our candidate does not win but we will stand by our vote,” the source said.
The source alleged that a PDP chieftain was responsible for this action.
Meanwhile, the APC candidate in Taraba, Aisha Alhassan, if she emerges the winner, will become the first female governor in Nigeria.
