The Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) said on Monday that Dr Federick Fasehun remained suspended from the party and could not be speaking for its members.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Sokoto, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
The party was apparently reacting to a recent statement credited to Fasehun disparaging the person of the President-elect, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. According to the statement, Fasehun allegedly accused Buhari of stealing N2.8 billion while he (Buhari) was military head of state.
The statement also alleged that the suspended member had accused Buhari of originating Boko Haram and called on security agencies to investigate him (Fasehun).
“We want to state unequivocally from the onset that Fasehun is living in borrowed time and could not be speaking for the UPN. “His recent ranting in the media trying to disparage Gen. Buhari and the UPN’s governorship candidate in Lagos state, Mrs Modupe Onitin-Abiola, is nothing but a desperate and failed contractual attempt for cheap publicity,” the statement read in part.
The party said it was surprised that security agencies were yet to summon Fasehun for the ridiculous character assassination on the person of the president-elect.
UPN further alleged that Fasehun collected a N3 billion contract from the Federal Government for the protection of NNPC pipelines against vandalism.
However, the statement said well meaning Nigerians perceived the contract was to rig the 2015 general elections in favour of the ruling party (PDP).
“Nigerians should not forget too soon that Fasehun collected a N3 billion contract from outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 general elections to secure NNPC pipelines from vandalism.
“UPN and patriotic Nigerians perceived the spurious contract was planned to purchase arms and destabilise the electoral process in the South-West in favour of PDP,” it said.
According to the statement, Fasehun unilaterally withdrew the candidature of a person who emerged through a legitimate party process for pecuniary reasons in the person of Mrs Modupe Onitin- Abiola.
“He traded off her mandate to the PDP candidate for personal benefits in tune with his trade mark,” it said. Besides, it advised security agencies to pick special interest in the activities of Fashehun, adding that he remained suspended from the party and removed as the acting national chairman of the party.
The statement warned that anyone or body who those any business with him the suspended member does so at his or her own risk.
