The governor-elect in Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom, has promised to tackle corruption through the entrenchment of core values of the society.
Ortom, who contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, made the statement on Monday in Makurdi while addressing newsmen.
He said that his administration would bring back the missing core values of honesty, service, perseverance, meekness and uprightness in the day-to-day running of the government.
He said that accountability, transparency, prudence, justice and fair play among others, were very vital tools of governance.
The governor-elect also pledged to tackle the problem of unemployment through the establishment and revitalization of moribund industries.
“By so doing jobs will be generated and wealth will also be created for the teeming youths.
“I will also provide an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive in the state,” he said.
He commended Gov. Gabriel Suswam, the outgoing governor and Mr Terhemen Tarzoor, his PDP opponent in the race, for conceding defeat.
“This gesture will go a long way in deepening the democratic process.
“They have demonstrated that they are patriotic by exhibiting immense spirit of sportsmanship by conceding defeat,” NAN quoted him as saying.
