Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that Nemanja Matic injured himself during the Capital One Cup final celebrations at Wembley.
The Serbian was suspended for the final – which the Blues won 2-0 over Tottenham – and he changed from his club suit to full playing kit for the trophy presentation.
But he twisted his ankle during the celebrations and would have been sidelined for Wednesday’s 1-0 win at West Ham on Wednesday had he not been suspended.
Nemanjia Matic twisted his ankle during the Capital One Cup final celebrations at Wembley.
Mourinho expects him to be fit in time for next week’s Champions League last-16 second leg against Paris St-Germain.
“Matic got an injury celebrating the cup. It’s not a big injury, but if today he was not suspended, he wouldn’t play,” ” Mourinho said.
“He twisted his ankle. On the pitch. He put on shinpads but he didn’t put the tape on. He will play against Paris. On Saturday, Sunday, he will train.”
