Serie A: AC Milan Could End San Siro ground share After Unveiling Plans For New 48,000-Seater Stadium

AC Milan have unveiled plans for a new 48,000-seat stadium that would see them end their ground share with rivals Inter.

The Serie A side posted a video and series of images on their official website of a two-tier stadium based on the design of Arsenal's Emirates ground - but with an additional retractable roof.

It is estimated that the project, which would include a hotel, restaurants and parking areas, will cost up to £240m.

Milan have shared the city-run 80,000-seat San Siro with Inter since 1947 but they could move into their new home in time for the 2018-19 season.

The stadium, to be set in the Portell-Fiera area of the city, is expected to be ecologically-friendly, capable of recycling rainwater and completely soundproof, thanks to new technology.

Architect Emilio Faroldi said his plans were inspired by arenas in Basel and Bilbao, as well as in north London.

Final approval is expected in March.
