Barcelona midfielder Boluwatife Balogun has thrown his weight behind Nigeria’s Under 20 national team, and has tipped the team to qualify for this summer’s World Cup in New Zealand.
The 18 year old was invited to the Golden Eaglets before the 2013 U-17 FIFA World Cup, but club commitments prevented him from making the trip to Nigeria.
Now, he is prepared to make himself available for selection if the Flying Eagles qualify for the tournament in Oceania.
”Of course, the Flying Eagles will qualify for the World Cup, the team possesses the qualities,” Balogun said to sl10.ng.
”I have been following the team lately, and there are star players there, mostly from the previous U- 17 squad, which triumphed in the United Arab Emirates two years ago.
”I have not yet had any contact with the U- 20 national team coaches, but I would prefer to play for the team than the U-23 squad.
”Christian Pyagbara is my favorite player in the squad. I think he’ll catch the eye during the African Youth Championship.”
Balogun has spent the last two years playing for the youth teams of Barcelona.
Born in Nigeria, the exciting prospect is also eligible to represent two other countries, France and Holland.
