Ahead of today’s commencement of the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to electorate, residents in Lagos, yesterday, raised concerns over alleged plans by the commission to exclude some councils from the distribution of the PVCs in the state, saying “the electoral body is not ready for the exercise.”
The residents who spoke during a sensitization forum in Ikeja, organized by the state government on the need to come out en masses to collect their PVCs, also expressed concerns over the competence of the electoral body to come out with popular and an acceptable list
Some of the residents, who spoke during an interactive session, raised the alarm that INEC only prepared to conduct the exercise in about 10 Local Government Areas, LGAs, out of the 20 recognised in Lagos.
They, however, threatened to boycott the 2015 general elections if there are discrepancies observed during the exercise.
Among dignitaries at the forum include: former governor of the state, Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson (retd), Senator Gbenga Ashafa as well as party big wigs and loyalists, traditional rulers and religious leaders, traders and party loyalists, among others.
Lagosians urged to turn up en mass
AS the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, begins the three-day distribution of 4.8 million permanent voters cards, PVC, today, eligible Lagosians have been urged to turn out en mass to collect their cards to enable them exercise their franchise in the 2015 general elections.
The PVCs will be distributed in the 8,465 polling units where the voters were registered in 2006 from today to Sunday November 9.
