Yaya Toure had been off twitter for five months because he wanted to focus on the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The 31 year-old Ivory coast captain reactivated his twitter account a day after the win over city rivals Manchester United on Sunday.
Hours after his first post after 5 months: ''Great to be back on twitter after a good win yesterday. Now my focus is on the next game... Happy Monday everyone!!'' some twitter users took on their rants
Though not reported by the player himself, an Anti-discrimination group KICK IT OUT reported cases of Racist abuses to the police.
''Yaya Toure has been on Twitter for a matter of hours and he has already received abuse of an appalling nature.

Yaya is no stranger to Racist attacks as he is the reason why CSKA Moscow have o play their Champions League games without the presence of fans and supporters at the stands.
Last season he suffered racist chants from fans of the Russian club and UEFA slammed it for the new Champions League season.
