Report reaching Naijaballers reveals Speaker of the House of Representatives Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, has allegedly been held hostage by men of the Department of State Security, DSS.
Calls made to his Media aide Imam Imam to confirm the report remain unanswered as at the time of publication.
It can be recalled that the Speaker called for special session today to enable the House consider President Goodluck Jonathan’s request that the National Assembly extend emergency rule in three northeast states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe hit by Boko Haram insurgents.
A DSS deputy director attached to the National Assembly when contacted in his office said he was not permitted to talk but that they were ready to provide security for the parliament.
“The DSS is here to ensure order and security of lives and property. We are ready to ensure parliamentary activities today are safe and hitchfree,” he said.
He dismissed the question on whether the same security cover would be extended to the House Speaker, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. “I am not permitted to speak on that,” he told newsmen.
Early Thursday morning, a large number of SSS personnel took over the National Assembly complex and sealed off all entry points leaving only one open where everyone going in is thoroughly frisked and many, turned back.
